I went to college to become a chemist, where I let my creativity out in the form of writing. Sadly, after five novel attempts were all lost due to one type of failure or another, I gave up and focused on SCIENCE!!! However, being an analytical chemist doesn't allow for much creativity. Writing was my escape from the daily spreadsheets and reagents. Now I can say I prefer to write stories than to swirl flasks, but I still have a long way to go.
I have my mother to thank for getting me into writing, though it was done through trying to get me to read. I had stories in my mind that I wanted to flesh out more than read others.
I don't force anything. I would rather step back for six months, forget about it, then come back with fresh eyes. This can happen at any point in the process, and I have found only makes for a better story. If the story is not ready to be written, it must wait.
